Meet Rebecca

Specialist in College Counseling

Background, Education & Experience

Communicator:

Long before Rebecca became an Independent Educational Consultant, she was honing her communication skills as an actress beginning at age 14 when she played Moth in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Invisible Theater in Tucson, Arizona. She performed in multiple plays before transitioning from acting to dancing when coming to San Diego to attend USIU on a scholarship, studying Musical Theater Dance.

Rebecca performed professionally as a dancer for over 20 years for groups such as The Beach Boys, Microsoft, and Visionary Dance Theatre, where she was a choreographer, teacher, and soloist. Her final choreographic piece can be found here:

Educator:

Her first teaching position was in a classroom for deaf/blind infants and children. Later positions included a deaf education elementary class and several mixed-ability special day classes.

Rebecca homeschooled all three of her children over a period of 25 years. She also worked for Regina Caeli, a small private Catholic school, helping homeschool families with course choices, special needs students, and college planning.

She taught preschool, high school, and adult dance classes, gymnastics classes to deaf children at SDSU, and Gymventures classes at the YMCA. She also taught ASL classes to high schoolers.

Her vast teaching experience gives her a deep understanding of the students she works with, as she can draw them out using her knowledge and skills as a communicator and educator.

College Counselor:

Since 2012, Rebecca has helped high school students plan for, and complete the college application process. She enjoys teaching students about the admissions process and loves helping students find their voices.

Rebecca works with students from all educational backgrounds: private school students, public school students, homeschool students, charter school students, transfer students, and students with unusual educational backgrounds. To read more about the colleges where her students have been admitted, please check out LinkedIn.

Rebecca also worked for BosonEd from 2012-2016, where she helped Chinese international students apply to American undergraduate and graduate programs.

Rebecca, the parent of two Davidson Young Scholars alumni, has been a presenter for the Young Scholars on topics including radical acceleration and twice-exceptional learners. She has presented at California Homeschool Network’s annual conference several times on Homeschooling and College Admissions and Homeschooling Gifted Children. Rebecca was also on multiple IECA conference panels.

Personal Information

My husband and I are the proud parents of three wonderful adult sons. Our eldest son graduated from MIT, our middle son attends San Diego State University, and our youngest son attends Regent University.

JUST FOR FUN

This was my last dance solo before retiring from performing at age 48! I was a jazz dance specialist so this, a modern piece, was (quite literally) a stretch for me.
